After having a conversation with someone about the Alien series, they asked “I don’t get it though, why would they give up such good characters and story for….Predators?”
Marketability? Money? The desire for action over substance? These could all very well be the reasons for the direction Aliens took after its quadrology (hey at least the 4th one is entertaining). These reasons may also be the cause for the fact that a serious Sci-Fi film hasn’t come out in quite a while (and no I can’t call Tron Legacy 2010 serious because the film never took itself seriously even from its beginnings in 1982). What I mean by serious is a Sci-Fi film that does what it’s supposed to do: put substance above action, because at the end of the day true Sci-Fi is really all about its ideas.
The trailer looks VERY promising to me (especially because there are no Predators running around).
Could this be true Sci-Fi’s long awaited return?
